Brief History of The Mount Carmel Baptist Church

Brief History of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church

Following the birth of the Antioch Baptist Church on the 5th March 1963, the Lord led the late Sis. Marjorie Weekes who was very sick to turn over her Sunday School which was being held in the only rented two story building at Lodge Project on 10th May 1963.

Pastor William Connor saw it fit to ask  Kelvin Jones to take charge of that Sunday School.  Now Pastor of the Mount Carmel Baptist.
From an interview with Pastor Jones:
"Immediately, I started attending the Sunday School assisted by Marie Weekes and her sister Kathleen Weekes.  These were of great help to the work.  The work grew rapidly.   Pure love was demonstrated among the workers and the people. The Sunday school grew so rapidly that it now was ordained into a full church called the LODGE BAPTIST CHURCH.
Shortly after taking over, we started holding Vacation Bible School, revival Services etc.  The work began to grow by leaps and bounds.  The building became too small and we therefore sought to purchase land to build a larger building so that we would have enough space.
We were offered land in several places, but they were not good enough.  Eventually God, using Sis. Rosalie Kelly, we were able to purchase land from Mr. Clive Jordon, former Estate Owner of Bourryeau Village, St. Kitts, West Indies. WE now have a beautiful building resting on once acre of land called the MT.CARMEL BAPTIST CHURCH."

  1. Pastor Jones, I will like to thank you personally for the days and nights of toiling and bringing MCBC to what it is today. I have benefited from every event that took place in and around the church whether it was as a preschooler, a typing student, a training union member/leader, youth member/secretary, member of the church and various activities carried out by the church such as the ladies ministries, praise and worship leader. Whatever it was. I just want to thank God for keeping you so that I was able to reap my blessing and in turn be a blessing to even one soul. May God continue to bless you and your family TREMENDOUSLY as you continue to toil for Him! I love and miss you and all my family there at MCBC!
